The role
03To provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to students, staff, and visitors in accordance with Swiss nursing standards, Croix-Rouge protocols, and NMC guidance (if applicable). The School Nurse promotes the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of all students and ensures that safeguarding and child protection principles are embedded in all aspects of practice.
01Adhere to Swiss nursing regulations, the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (if applicable), and relevant advisory papers.
02Deliver evidence-based nursing care in accordance with Swiss standards and Croix-Rouge protocols.
03Maintain confidentiality at all times, following Swiss data protection (DSG/FADP) and child protection legislation.
04Uphold and actively promote the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, reporting any concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
05Participate in ongoing professional development and safeguarding training.
06Provide high-standard nursing services to students, staff, and visitors.
07Organise and run nurse clinics during duty hours.
08Assess injuries, illnesses, and health conditions, create care plans, and refer to secondary care when appropriate.
09Administer medications in accordance with prescriptions, care plans, and Swiss legal requirements.
10Develop and maintain individual care plans in collaboration with house staff, wellbeing coordinators, and parents.
11Apply Gillick competence when assessing students’ capacity to consent to treatment.
12Communicate with parents in cases of significant injury, illness, or emergencies while maintaining medical confidentiality.
13Deliver first aid and emergency care according to Croix-Rouge standards; maintain and restock first aid kits.
14Provide confidential counselling and health advice when appropriate.
15Administer vaccinations and follow infectious disease control procedures in compliance with FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health) guidelines.
16Safely manage and store medical supplies, clinical waste, and medications according to Swiss regulations.
17Record all appointments and interventions accurately in the real-time database.
18Supervise care of unwell students during the night in the health centre, in houses and coordinate with house staff.
19Remain vigilant to signs of abuse or neglect, record concerns accurately, and report them immediately to the DSL.
20Promote health education across the school following Croix-Rouge and Swiss health promotion standards.
21Support wellbeing and pastoral initiatives in collaboration with teaching and pastoral teams.
22Keep up to date with current health promotion and safeguarding programmes.
23Participate in Atelier Clinic or similar forums to discuss relevant health and wellbeing topics.
24Maintain accurate, confidential medical records.
25Record all medication dispensing according to protocol.
