* 05 August 2026 * 50 - 80% * Permanent position * Lugano The EOC, the multi-site hospital of Ticino, is present with its institutes throughout the entire cantonal territory with a total of 1,000 beds. The organisation effectively combines a local approach with an overall vision, guaranteeing the population a comprehensive and local hospital service, regardless of where the services are required. Thanks to the commitment and expertise of over 6,500 collaborators and their attention to human relationships, the EOC ensures quality healthcare by caring for over 41,000 inpatients annually and providing over 600,000 outpatient consultations. EOC collaborates intensively with the University of Italian Switzerland (USI) in the training of new doctors within the context of the Master in Human Medicine. EOC also plays an important role in fostering and promoting medical research (clinical and translational) in the Canton. The Cantonal Hospital Authority is seeking for the General Management a: Head of Research and Teaching Area (ARI) (50%-80%) The Research and Teaching Area (ARI) is the reference point for EOC in clinical and translational research and is the institutional link between EOC and USI for the Master in Human Medicine. The Head of ARI contributes to defining the strategies and development plans of EOC, with particular reference to Research policies, in line with the collaboration agreement signed with USI and in cooperation with the Medical Area. In this role, they participate in defining the strategic vision of EOC as an integrated academic hub, promoting the consolidation and expansion of research activities and the creation of collaborative networks with academic institutions. They collaborate with the Medical Area and the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences in developing academic pathways for health professionals. The position reports directly to the General Director, is part of the EOC General Management, and fully identifies with its values. Purpose of the role * to ensure, in compliance with current laws, EOC directives and strategies, the definition and implementation of development plans for the Research and Teaching Area (ARI); * to oversee and promote, in collaboration with the Medical Area and the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, clinical and translational research activities carried out in all EOC hospitals and institutes, ensuring effective collaboration in the training of students of the Master in Human Medicine, consistent with the strategic objectives of the Authority and agreements with USI. The Head of Area: * has full responsibility for implementing the strategy and operational management of the Research and Teaching Area (ARI); * supports, promotes and develops clinical and translational research in all EOC healthcare facilities, using and coordinating the necessary skills and tools (Clinical Trial Unit - CTU, fundraising, biostatistics, etc.), in accordance with the plan developed with USI; * collaborates regarding EOC in teaching activities for students of the USI Master in Human Medicine; * promotes the training of doctors interested in biomedical research, with particular attention to junior colleagues, supporting them in developing basic skills to pursue research activities through courses organised by the CTU (GCP, biostatistics, etc.); * develops and maintains institutional relations with the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and other academic institutions and research institutes present in the territory (in particular SUPSI, IRB and IOR), as well as nationally with the SCTO; * promotes a culture of quality and integrity in research, ensuring adherence to good practices, regulations and ethical standards; * values, in collaboration with the Medical Area, patient involvement in clinical research, respecting the highest ethical standards and current regulations; * contributes to making EOC-s academic and scientific position attractive nationally and internationally, also promoting the assumption of clear academic responsibilities by EOC collaborators, as well as academic career paths; * leads and is responsible for the personal and financial resources assigned to the ARI area. Skills and experience The ideal candidate has: * a federal specialist medical qualification, possibly with advanced training; * an academic title of Professor or Privatdozent (PD) at a Swiss university or an equivalent recognised title; * solid experience in promoting, conducting or supervising clinical and/or translational research projects; * strong clinical experience in hospital settings in senior roles; * several years of solid experience in healthcare and/or academic management; * a strong connection with cantonal and federal realities, ability to interface interprofessionally and with other academic and healthcare sector entities; * excellent organisational skills: ability to manage complex projects, define priorities strategically and operate effectively in a dynamic environment; * proven experience in managing and implementing change processes, with skills in creating collaboration and consensus among different stakeholders. Title and Technical Requirements * Educational qualification: Federal diploma as a medical doctor and FMH specialisation or equivalent title. * Academic experience: academic title of Professor or Privatdozent (PD) at a Swiss university or equivalent recognised title. * Language skills: mastery, in addition to Italian, of at least one other national language (German, French), as well as excellent knowledge of English.
