"Which job suits me?" is one of life's biggest questions, and there is rarely a single answer. But there is a clear way to narrow it: combine what interests you, what you are good at and what matters to you, then test the overlap against reality. This guide walks you through that self-clarification step by step, introduces the proven RIASEC model, and points to free tests that give you direction.
As a career coach I often see people hunting for the perfect job while missing the next sensible step. Clarity does not come from overthinking, it comes from structure and trying things.
Three questions that narrow your direction
Instead of searching for job titles right away, clarify three things first. One, your interests: what do you engage with voluntarily, even when nobody is watching? Two, your strengths: what comes more easily to you than to others, what do people praise you for? Three, your values: do you weigh security, meaning, income, freedom or impact? A job that hits all three lasts longer than one that only pays well.
Your strengths also show up in your own history. Look at your CV and mark the tasks where you come alive, not just the ones you are good at.
