Zety has a rating problem that is more interesting than a bad rating would be. It holds 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot, which is good, from 12,673 reviews, which is a lot. And 14 percent of those reviews are one star.
For comparison, we checked another builder in the same category the same day and found 4 percent at one star. Something is producing an unusually polarised response, and reading both halves makes it obvious what.
All figures below were read on 26 August 2026. Pricing moves, so check it before you buy anything.
The split: people like the product, not the purchase
Sorting the reviews by sentiment produces two almost separate conversations. The positive ones talk about the builder: templates, the guided interface, the writing suggestions. The negative ones almost never mention the product at all. They talk about money.

Trustpilot's recurring negative themes on the day we read them were unexpected charges after the trial, difficulty cancelling, and refused refunds. A reviewer three days earlier wrote that after requesting cancellation, "they detect my money from my account" and "they said no refund." Another, hours before we looked, described clicking through a site advertising a free resume maker and being asked to pay at the end.
That pattern is worth taking seriously precisely because the other 69 percent are five stars. This is not a product people hate. It is a product a significant minority feel caught by.
How the billing actually works
The mechanics explain most of the complaints, and they are unusual enough to be worth stating slowly.
Zety's paid access is advertised as a 14-day trial for a small sum, commonly reported at 1.95 dollars. At the end of the trial it converts to a recurring subscription reported at 25.95 dollars, and the billing cycle is every four weeks rather than monthly. An annual plan is also available at a much lower effective rate. We could not load Zety's own pricing page to confirm these figures directly, so treat them as consistently reported across independent sources and by users rather than as quoted from the vendor, and verify before purchase.
